About Chef SaithongSaithong was born in Phetchabun, a province in Northern Thailand. She grew up in a small village in the countryside, where her family like most families, were rice farmers. There, the traditional art of Thai cooking was passed down from generation to generation.
As a nine year old girl, she would wake up at the crack of dawn to prepare food for her parents and brothers. Every week, the enthusiastic girl would venture to the market to see what exciting fresh ingredients were available for her kitchen. Although much has changed since those days, her passion for Thai food has remained.Saithong has an Associate degree in Accounting and a Bachelors degree in Education from Phetchabun University (Thailand). Saithong immigrated to America in 2004 and now lives in the San Francisco Bay Area. She now spends her time searching local Asian grocery stores for Thai ingredients. She continues to enjoy cooking Thai food for her family at home. Saithong also maintains an organic garden in her backyard where she grows many of the ingredients that go into her Thai cooking, like banana leaves, Kiffer lime leaves, lemongrass, Thai basil, and many other herbs. Saithong now teaches Thai cooking so others can share her joy for the art. She is always happy to answer any questions about Thailand and its culture.
